I connect more with stories that aren't pleasant.

You said writers write because their lives are unfulfilled, so their stories express that void. I don't expect anything happy to come from that, but it's more relatable.

Some authors write happy stories because their lives are lacking in happiness. And some authors would probably say I'm overthinking it and that people write happy stories to make others happy.

I need somewhere to stay for the next Iris moon cycle. It doesn't have to be for the whole thing, just for a day or two.

But I get really embarrassing during that time so I wanted you to be warned about that before I asked.

Embarrassing? I'm sure it's nothing that I can't handle.

But I do wonder why you choose to come to me? Why not, Jinko? Or Nakajima-san?

[They were trying to kill each other at one point, and although they are in a better place now, Atsushi does have other people he could turn to.]

Well, you can stay here for the duration of the Iris Moon phase. I just have one condition.

[It's honestly a condition he would have prepared for. The question is if Akutagawa's fridge will have space for all the food. Atsushi tends to eat his way through the Iris cycle, especially if he's not sleeping with anyone during it.

This is another awkward question, but I have to ask: knowing what Iris moon does to me, should I be prepared to handle those 'problems' on my own?

[Asking if Aku is DTF without actually saying those words. It's a good thing this is text, it totally took him like five minutes to write that out. He would be stumbling through his sentences if he had to actually talk.]

[Akutagawa's fridge doesn't have much in it anyway. He tends to eat out since he's not good at cooking. The most he can manage is rice and toast. So Atsushi should have enough room for all his groceries.

But maybe there's no need.

As for the question, Akutagawa knows of the issue that Atsushi is alluding to. He's heard a lot about people who are moon blessed by Iris, so he has some idea of what to expect.]

I assume that would be the case by allowing you to stay. I'll be willing to help, just don't expect me to be clingy.

[Atsushi will probably not get his cuddling fix from him.]

[Aku will eat better during Atsushi's visit, because Atsushi will at least share with him. He's not the best cook but he has like five dishes he can manage.

And honestly, Atsushi is still embarrassed but kind of happy that Akutagawa is willing to be with him. Even without cuddles, sex is something that brings two people closer. And despite how strange the situation is, Atsushi finds himself wanting to be closer to this particular Akutagawa. He's still bloodthirsty and a weirdo, but more understandable in a way? But maybe that's their shared mafia history that makes it that way.]

Their shared mafia history is definitely a factor. He still feels Atsushi doesn't belong in the mafia, but he also gets a sense of camaraderie from him. There's a hint of intrigue since he does see his Atsushi within him, but yet there are obvious differences between the two. He wants to explore more of what makes this Atsushi tick.]

birthday package

[No, Akutagawa didn't tell him his birthday. He didn't have to - Atsushi's 99% certain he shares it with the Akutagawa from his world.

The package, neatly wrapped with a bow, contains an antique painting Atsushi purchased for him. It's the genuine article, and must have been expensive. It depicts a night garden scene under a full moon - it seemed like the sort of thing Akutagawa might like to put on his wall, if he decorated at all ever.

There's also a note.

Happy birthday. I remembered you like antiques, so I hope you like this piece.

[He isn't expecting anything. Though, he opens his door to find the package with the note from Atsushi. He opens it up, finding the antique painting. The artwork of the night garden scene beneath a full moon is something he could appreciate.

He'll call up Atsushi to express his gratitude.]

A good birthday? I'm not sure what that is since I don't normally celebrate it.

I won't say it's unpleasant, it's more like it's not important to me. I never celebrated, because I didn't think it was necessary. Normally I would work, like any other day. When I was younger, we were more concerned about when our next meal will be rather than a birthday.

[ It does sound depressing, but it is what is.]

Even so...I do appreciate your gift. It makes me feel a little special.

You've cared about me before. [Even if it comes out strangely in Sanguis, it's rooted in a place of caring.] And you became the kind of person you had to be to survive - I can't judge you for that.
